"How to become a real hero?" - was the name of one of the events of the XVI International Festival of Family Media Creativity "Sunflower". The goalkeeper of the Russian national sledge hockey team, silver medalist of the Paralympics in Sochi, holder of the Order of Courage Vladimir Kamantsev came to the meeting with the children with his family.

A person's path can be thorny. Vladimir showed this to children by his own example.

After leaving school, Vladimir Kamantsev was drafted into the ranks of the Russian Armed Forces. He chose the landing, became a scout. He says:

"The scouts are a special people, they live as a separate family and share everything equally - joy and sorrow, otherwise they will not survive in the enemy rear."

Vladimir Kamantsev took part in the Second Chechen War. He served in the third reconnaissance platoon of the 56th Guards Airborne Assault Regiment. On February 20, 2000, near Shatoi,  Vladimir’s reconnaissance group was ambushed. In a heavy night battle, Vladimir was wounded twice: one bullet broke the radius of the arm, and the second, hitting the thigh, damaged the sciatic nerve. Vladimir and three of his comrades were surrounded: about 30 militants attacked them; however, the friends did not disappoint and pulled Vladimir out of the battlefield.

On March 1, 2001, the plenipotentiary of the President of the Russian Federation in the Volga Federal District, being on a working visit to the Udmurt Republic, arrived at the military hospital of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. There he presented the Order of Courage to soldier Vladimir Kamantsev - for courage shown in the battle near Shatoi.

The wound in the leg turned out to be serious and disrupted blood circulation in it. A twenty-year-old conscript soldier was assigned the third category of disability and was fired from the ranks of the armed forces. Vladimir underwent about 20 operations in ten years, but his leg had to be amputated. Friends helped him get to one of the rehabilitation centers in St. Petersburg, where he received effective help.

In 2011, Kamantsev returned to Izhevsk; his friend Nail Ziyatdinov, Deputy Chairman of the Foundation for Disabled and War Veterans of the Udmurt Republic, advised Vladimir to go in for sports and recommended the Udmurtia sledge hockey club. Since that time, Vladimir Kamantsev has been playing sledge hockey and plays for the Izhevsk club "Udmurtia".

During the 2014 Winter Paralympic Games in Sochi, Vladimir Kamantsev won a silver medal as part of the Russian sledge hockey team.

Let us remind that the Festival of Family Media Creativity "Sunflower" is held annually with the support of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly and under the patronage of the Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Valery Buzilov.
