Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly won a Grant from the President of the Russian Federation

On August 28, 2020, the project of the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly “Teaching journalism to young people and children from 12 years of age with disabilities due to eye disease and its appendage “Journalism Lessons for the Blind” was highly evaluated by a team of experts due to its recognized social significance. The Project was recognized as the winner in a special competition for a grant from the President of the Russian Federation for the development of civil society.

The aim of the project is to facilitate social adaptation, develop creative abilities and promote career guidance for blind and visually impaired children from 12 years of age through involvement in journalism. At the same time, advanced approaches are used, including specially developed audio equipment.

Project Manager Olga Chirkova is a well-known specialist in the field of creating inclusive methods. Her activities, the centre for social production “Zhuraveynik” and the project EURASIA KIDS have been widely recognized outside of Izhevsk (Udmurtia, Russia), where Olga lives and works. Many of its students with disabilities are studying at the faculties of journalism in the largest universities in Russia. Others, having gained unique social experience, have built their careers in other fields.

The project “Journalism Lessons for the Blind” will involve professionals and enthusiasts who develop inclusive additional education for young people and children with diseases of the eye and its appendage-teachers, typhlopedagogues, psychologists, managers and employees of educational and rehabilitation centres, regional centres of the all-Russian society of the blind, well-known journalists, parents of children with disabilities.

The Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly thanks all those who supported the project “Journalism Lessons for the Blind”, and especially notes the role of the famous journalist Alexey Samoletov in the creation of this project. Alexey gives a lot of effort to support social initiatives of the Assembly. His participation in the project will certainly make it successful and interesting for those who are interested in it!
