On September 21, 2021, a Gala Reception was held at the GlavUpDK Cultural Center of the Russian Foreign Ministry in honor of the International Day of Peace, approved by the UN 40 years ago.
The Reception was attended by prominent public and scientific figures, representatives of UN international organizations, UNESCO, FAO, SCO, representatives of the Russian Foreign Ministry and diplomatic missions of foreign States the Russian Federation.
“When four years ago we held the First Congress of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly, we were driven by one common ardent desire - to preserve peace. More than two thousand people from 67 countries of the world dreamed of the same thing - that our children and grandchildren live under a peaceful sky. And now, when we are getting closer, clearer and dearer to each other, this desire only intensifies. Working for the sake of peace is the highest mission and our common goal,” - said Andrei Belyaninov, Secretary General of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly, opening the event.
He read out the greetings of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov to the participants of the event.
“Over the past years, the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly has become an authoritative non-governmental organization. Its activities contribute to the strengthening of friendship, trust and mutual understanding in our common Eurasian space, the development of a broad intercultural and interfaith dialogue.
The growing prestige of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly is evidenced by today's Reception, timed to coincide with the International Day of Peace. It brought together representatives of government agencies and international organizations, diplomatic missions, business circles, the general public - all those who seek to contribute to the promotion of the values of the world, ”- says, in particular, Sergey Lavrov's greeting.
Vladimir Pavinsky, Deputy Director of the UN Information Center in the Russian Federation, greeted the audience on behalf of the United Nations.
“Peace is not a naive dream. It is a light in the dark. The light that guides us on the only path to a better future for humanity. Let's walk the path of peace as if our lives depend on it. Because it is really so, - ”Vladimir Pavinsky quoted UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
The aspiration for peace was demonstrated by the action that has become traditional - the Gala Reception in honor of the Day of Peace. The guests and organizers of the event rang the bells at the same time, thus showing their readiness to make every effort in the cause of world peace.
Recall that the International Day of Peace was established by the UN General Assembly in 1981. In 2001, the UN General Assembly decided that starting from 2002 this day will be celebrated annually on September 21. The solemn date has been declared a day of renunciation of violence and a ceasefire, a day of strengthening the ideals of peace among all countries and peoples.
The International Union of Non-Governmental Organizations "Eurasian Peoples' Assembly" annually holds a Gala Reception in honor of the International Day of Peace.
