Russian Language Day | June 06, 2023, Geneva (Switzerland)

On June 6, the birthday of the great Russian poet A. S. Pushkin, the annual Russian Language Day will be held at the UN Headquarters in Geneva (Switzerland) as part of the program to support and develop multilingualism and cultural diversity.

One of this program goals is to maintain equality of all six official UN languages:

  • Russian,
  • english,
  • Arabic,
  • spanish,
  • Chinese
  • French.

The event will be held in the format of an online marathon.

This year the holiday is dedicated to the Russian language in the history of Moscow and will be held under the name “Moscow! How much in this word for the Russian heart has merged!

The marathon will be attended by:

  • Gennady Gatilov, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva;
  • Tatyana Valovaya, Director General of the United Nations Office at Geneva;
  • Andrey Belyaninov, Secretary General of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly;
  • Sergei Cheremin, Minister of the Government of Moscow, Head of the Department of Foreign Economic and International Relations of the City of Moscow;
  • Evgeny Primakov, Head of the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo);
  • Egor Peregudov, artistic director of the Mayakovsky Theatre;
  • Eugene Marchelli, artistic director of the Mossovet Theatre;
  • Dmitry Bertman, Artistic Director of the Helikon-Opera Theatre.

Theater and concert groups from Moscow will take part in the event, museum venues will be involved too. MGIMO students will read excerpts about Moscow from works by prominent Russian writers and poets.

The duration of the upcoming online marathon is 40 minutes. The event will be broadcast on the UN platforms, in all branches of Rossotrudnichestvo, on the website of the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly, in the information resources of the Moscow Government and MGIMO.
