Andrey Belyaninov, Secretary General of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly, said that the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) is interested in signing an agreement on a free trade zone (FTA) with India as soon as possible.

Recall that the EAEU includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia.

"He asked to convey that the EEC (Eurasian Economic Commission) is interested in signing an agreement on working in the format of a free trade zone with India as soon as possible," Belyaninov said at a press conference on Monday, TASS reports.

As Belyaninov added, the head (EEC) Mikhail Myasnikovich instructed him to convey the appropriate message to representatives of the Indian business segment during the relevant meetings.

According to the Secretary General of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly, the EAEU FTA with India is mutually beneficial and creates "tremendous benefits for both Indian and Eurasian businesses."

As noted by the agency, India and the EAEU completed preliminary expert consultations on the formation of an FTA in December 2021. An agreement was reached to start negotiations in early 2022.

Earlier it was reported that such large Asian trade partners of the EAEU as India and Indonesia are considering the creation of an FTA with the association, despite pressure from the United States.
