On the sidelines of the First Catherine Forum in Moscow, the results of the II International Contest “Leader of People’s Diplomacy” were summed up. It is a joint project of the International Union of Non-Governmental Organizations “Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly” and the All-Russian public organization “Assembly of the Peoples of Russia”, implemented with the support of the Presidential Grants Foundation.

Over the past two years, the Organizing Committee of the Contest has provided support to dozens of people's diplomats around the world. Its participants and winners represented Mexico, Indonesia, Spain, Germany, Egypt, Tunisia, Russia, Moldova, Romania, Abkhazia, the United Arab Emirates and other countries.

“The Contest’s most important value is that the project launches processes of interaction between countries based on interaction between people. Public diplomacy is something that today claims to be a real, true leadership, because we are talking about a person’s contribution to interaction with many actors,” said, opening the awards ceremony, Natalia Zabolotskikh, Deputy Head of the General Secretariat of the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly, coordinator of the International Contest “Leader of People’s Diplomacy”.

In 2023, 146 representatives of the non-profit sector took part in the educational program of the International Contest, 30 of them reached the finals. 29 finalists came to take part in person in the final stage of the competition.

On December 12, the work of the “leaders of public diplomacy” was devoted to developing a new model of interaction within the World Social Summit, the project the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly is working on. Participants were asked to develop a cooperation algorithm, prioritize activities and propose specific work tools, draw up an action plan and defend the concept. The work was carried out in groups. The finalists were evaluated according to 10 criteria.

Throughout the day, the finalists of the Contest were accompanied by experts and trainers: Natalya Burlinova, Founder of the Center for Creative Diplomacy, Associate Professor of the Financial University, Moscow Lomonosov State University, Russian State University for the Humanities, Ph.D.; Alexander Volchkov, General Director of the “Ratnik” TV channel, producer; Irina Galanova, Creative Director of MG NEOIGROTECH, member of the Coordination Council of the National Parents Association; Natalia Zabolotskikh, Deputy Head of the General Secretariat of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly, coordinator of the International Contest "Leader of Public Diplomacy", political scientist; Oksana Margiani, Head of the Department of Information Support of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly, Honored Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation; Evgenia Mikhaleva, Director of the ANO "Resource Center in the Sphere of National Relations".

“We studied all the proposals in detail, discussed all the options with the participants and agreed that we will continue to work together beyond the Contest. I would like just to note two value points that formed the basis of all proposals. First: One of the key values that was voiced is the openness to the world. This is the value that allows us to see each other as allies, not become isolated and continue to build communication. Second: Knowledge as a value. It comes through communication - this is a colossal foundation on which we can build our Eurasian integration, a great Eurasian partnership and another world where there is no division into superiors and inferiors, but there is a desire to develop, go together and cooperate. The meaning is in knowledge, in openness to knowledge, in openness to development - the key things that are in demand, and here we need to fill many gaps,” noted Natalia Zabolotskikh.

On December 13, the solemn awarding of the winners of the II International Contest “Leader of Public Diplomacy” was a highlight that concluded the First Catherine Forum.
