On February 19, 2022, the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly will hold the 13th Session of the International Public Forum “Preserving the memory of World War II and the Great Patriotic War” – “Grateful descendants in memory of the exploits of the 130th Order of Suvorov Latvian Rifle Corps of the Red Army”.

The forum is supported by the Eurasian Academy of Television and Radio (Russia) and the Institute of Military Heritage (Lithuania).

Partners: Daugavpils Branch of the Russian Community of Latvia (Daugavpils, Latvia), Baltic Center for Historical and Socio-Political Research (Latvia), Libava Search Center (Liepaja, Latvia).

The goals of the forum are to draw attention to the issues of preserving the historical memory of peoples, supporting the movement against the erosion of value and semantic aspects of history, falsification of the results of World War II and the Great Patriotic War; preparation for the establishment of the Association of descendants of soldiers of the 130th Latvian Rifle Corps of the Red Army; activation and search for new practices for the formation of constructive images of the memory of the Victory over Nazism, which would help strengthen mutual understanding and peaceful relations between countries and peoples.

  • Valery RUZIN, Deputy Secretary General of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly, President of the Eurasian Academy of Television and Radio (Russia);
  • Yurijus TRAKSHELIS, Deputy Secretary General of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly, Chairman of the NGO "Institute of Military Heritage" (Lithuania).

Andrey BELYANINOV, Secretary General of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly, will address the forum participants with a welcoming speech.

The forum will be attended by historians, journalists, search teams, representatives of military and veteran organizations, public figures from five countries - Russia, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Kazakhstan.

The 13th Session of the International Public Forum will consider the following issues:

  • The combat path of the 130th Latvian Rifle Corps of the Red Army in the Great Patriotic War;
  • Difficulties and heroism of the combat path of the 130th Latvian Rifle Corps of the Red Army;
  • Participation of the 130th Latvian Rifle Corps of the Red Army in the liberation of Courland from the Nazi invaders;
  • Estonian Corps of the Red Army in the battles for Courland;
  • 8th Guards Rifle Division (former 316th) after I.V. Panfilov in the liberation of Courland from fascism;
  • The Tragedy of the Latvians – Victims of the Salaspils Nazi Camp;
  • "Book of Memory. Latvia" - a tribute of descendants in preserving the memory of the soldiers of the 130th Latvian Rifle Corps of the Red Army;
  • The Establishment of Descendants Association representation offices of the Soldiers of the 130th Latvian Rifle Corps of the Red Army on the territory of the Baltic countries is a guarantee of preserving the memory of the immortal feat of the Red Army in the liberation of the peoples of Europe from fascism.

The International Public Forum is held in a hybrid format (offline and online).

The Latvian Rifle Corps was formed on June 5, 1944. The corps included: 43rd Guards and 308th Rifle Divisions. In August 1944, the combat strength of the corps consisted of about 16 thousand people.

In July 1944, formations of the 130th Corps as part of the 22nd Army of the 2nd Baltic Front were the first to enter the territory of Latvia and launched an offensive against enemy troops.

The 130th Latvian Rifle Corps took part in the Rezekne-Daugavpils, Luban-Madon, Riga, Dzhuksten and Saldus offensive operations.
