General Council Annual Meeting of the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly was held in Egypt

On January 29, 2023, in Cairo, as part of the Days of the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly in the Arab Republic of Egypt, the annual meeting of the General Council of the International Union of Non-Governmental Organizations “The Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly” was held.

The extended meeting, which was held in a hybrid format, was attended by members of the General Council of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly, members of the Supreme Advisory Council, honored guests and partners of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly from different countries.

Opening the meeting, the Secretary General of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly Andrey Belyaninov noted that year after year the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly is increasingly developing its activities in interaction with partners from different countries, implementing international projects through cultural, educational, humanitarian and economic cooperation. As a public international initiative, the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly provides new opportunities for multifaceted cooperation.

The report on the activities of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly over the past year was made by the First Deputy Secretary General - Head of the General Secretariat Svetlana Smirnova.

The members of the General Council also considered and approved the long-term plan of the Assembly for 2023, emphasizing the need to continue cooperation with international organizations such as the UN, the EAEU, the EU, the SCO, BRICS, the CIS, the Union State, ASEAN and others.

Among the priority organizational tasks, it was decided to pay special attention to the formation of a network of Representative Offices of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly in different countries; to continue active interaction and cooperation with the partners of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly on the implementation of the joint tasks stated in the signed agreements.

It is recommended to pay special attention to working with the young generation of the countries of Eurasia, promoting the introduction of new formats of cooperation between youth institutions of civil society and members of the Eurasian Youth Assembly, as well as work to preserve common historical memory and counteract the distortion of historical facts.

By a general instruction to the members of the General Council and employees of the General Secretariat, a decision was made to further implement international projects aimed at strengthening integration processes through peacekeeping dialogue, public diplomacy, and multifaceted cooperation with partners from different countries of Greater Eurasia.

During the consideration of the issues of the approved agenda, the members of the General Council paid special attention to the strategic line, approving the Main Areas for the Activities of the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly until 2025.

The General Council approved new councils and committees of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly, in particular the Committee on Migration, the Council for Economic Research, the Indian Business Council, the Council for Historical Memory, the Council for Children's Creativity.

Traditionally, the meeting of the General Council of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly ended with the presentation of certificates to new members and the signing of cooperation agreements with new partners.

The Eurasian Peoples' Assembly plans to further expand the formats and types of unifying platforms in the context of people's diplomacy, which has every opportunity to capture new trends in uniting people's forces around the world, promote the benefits of having reliable partners, new areas of activity, additional communication channels, be flexible, actively expand diplomatic relations, strengthen multilateral cooperation at the international level.

The Eurasian Peoples' Assembly today brings together representatives of non-governmental organizations from more than 50 countries. More than 180 partnership agreements have been concluded in culture, education, entrepreneurship, development of integration ties between the peoples of Eurasia and public diplomacy.

The achieved unity of the members and partners of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly is a valuable outcome of common efforts.
