The Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly proposed to establish an Annual International Youth Altai Forum in the Altai Republic

The First Deputy Secretary General - Head of the General Secretariat of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly Svetlana Smirnova said that the main topics of this year’s event are the humanitarian basis of Eurasianism, the construction of a common Eurasian space, and the actualization of the common cultural and historical heritage.

On June 23, Gorno-Altaisk hosted the International Altai Forum. Organizers: Government of the Republic of Altai, State Duma of the Russian Federation, Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO, Institute of the CIS Countries, Eurasian Peoples' Assembly.

The Eurasian Peoples' Assembly proposed to establish an annual International Altai Youth Forum in the Altai Republic, where young people will be able to join the discussion on the cultural integration of the peoples of Eurasia. This was announced by the First Deputy Secretary General - Head of the General Secretariat of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly Svetlana Smirnova at the Second International Altai Forum on Friday.

“For the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly, the theme of Altai as the center of the Eurasian civilization is very important and relevant. We propose, as part of the cooperation between the Government of the Altai Republic and the Assembly, to hold an annual International Youth Altai Forum so that young people can participate in the discussion of this topic,” she said.

Smirnova explained that the main topics that require joint discussion and new formats are the humanitarian basis of Eurasianism, the construction of a common Eurasian space, and the actualization of a common cultural and historical heritage.

“It is very important that the program focuses on the unifying role of Altai in the cultural integration of peoples,” she noted. According to Smirnova, it is important to convey these issues to young people so that young people can navigate the modern world agenda. “Young people need to know the history of peoples and their traditions, and this requires fundamental knowledge,” she added.

The International Altai Forum is being held in the Altai Republic for the second time. This year it received the status of permanent. The initiative belongs to the Head of the Representative Office of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly in the Altai Republic, Ivan Belekov.

The forum discussed the topics of the civilized and humanitarian basis of Eurasianism, the civilizational factor in international relations in the context of the formation of a polycentric world, the importance of the integration potential of Altai in the construction of the Eurasian space, the experience and prospects for expanding cross-border cooperation in the Central Asian region and other issues.

At the opening, the participants were addressed with a welcoming speech by: Head of the Republic of Altai Oleg Khorokhordin; Chairman of the State Assembly - El Kurultay RA Artur Kokhoev; Senator of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Tatyana Gigel; First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots Konstantin Zatulin; Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Russian Federation Kazem Jalali; Doctor of Economics, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, current member of the Board (Minister) for Integration and Macroeconomics of the Eurasian Economic Commission Sergey Glazyev.

Keynote presentations were made by: Adviser to the Head of the Altai Republic, member of the General Council of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly Ivan Belekov; UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, Co-Chair of the General Council of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly Alexandra Ochirova; First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots, Director of the Institute of CIS Countries Konstantin Zatulin.

The forum was attended by representatives from Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Russia and Tajikistan.
