The Eurasian Peoples' Assembly is in the Process of Opening a Representative Office in the Republic of Tunisia

MOSCOW. The headquarters of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly in Moscow hosted a working meeting between the Secretary General of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly Andrey Belyaninov and the President of the Tunisian-Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, people's diplomat Khristina Romanenko and Technical Director of Telnet Holding Khalil Luati.

As part of the working meeting, an Agreement on Cooperation was signed between the International Union of Non-Governmental Organizations "Eurasian Peoples' Assembly" and the Tunisian-Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The organizations agreed to jointly hold business events, develop and implement education and awareness programs, promote the improvement of long-term and comprehensive trade, economic, scientific, technical and educational ties between organizations and companies from different countries on the principles of reciprocity.

"The parties intend to carry out fruitful cooperation in the spirit of mutual understanding and mutual respect, to promote the development of international relations on the basis of multifaceted cooperation and cultural values," - the Agreement also says.

“I have a very high regard and respect for Tunisia. Here, the kindest feelings are experienced towards Russia and its multinational people. Tunisia has deservedly gained a reputation as a hospitable country with a rich cultural and historical heritage,”- said Andrey Belyaninov, Secretary General of the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly.

In 2023, the President of the Tunisian-Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Khristina Romanenko became the winner of the I International Competition "Leader of People's Diplomacy". The competition is implemented by the all-Russian public organization "Assembly of the Peoples of Russia" in partnership and with the support of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly, Presidential Grants Foundation.

“This year we held the platform “Public Diplomacy: Dialogue of Leaders” at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum and Khristina Pavlovna arrived from Tunisia in order to take part in our joint work,” - said Svetlana Smirnova, First Deputy Secretary General - Head of the General Secretariat of the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly during the meeting.

President of the Tunisian-Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Khristina Romanenko noted the great contribution of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly to the development of public diplomacy.

“An amazing thing happened at the competition - a symbiosis of like-minded people. Thanks to this symbiosis, new large-scale projects were born, previously unimaginable contacts were established,” - the people's diplomat said.

During the meeting, special attention was paid to the international aspect of developing relations with Tunisia in such areas as innovation, agriculture, transport links, and business development.

Russia, represented by Roskosmos, and Tunisia are actively cooperating in the field of manned space flights and training of the first female cosmonaut in Africa, a citizen of Tunisia. Khalil Luati, Technical Director of Telnet Holding, spoke about this during the meeting.

“The launch of the first Tunisian satellite by a Russian launch vehicle in 2021 and plans to send a Tunisian female cosmonaut to the ISS on the Soyuz spacecraft open up good prospects for joint science-intensive projects. The relevant work is being carried out by our holding together with Roskosmos. Peaceful space is a promising, high-status direction. I am sure that the set goals will be realized in the near future,” - said Khalil Luati.

Following the meeting, the Secretary General of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly Andrey Belyaninov proposed to consider the possibility of opening a representative office of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly in the Tunisian Republic. The tentative date is February 2024.
