Eurasian Peoples' Assembly and ZATO Association of the Defence Ministry of the Russian Federation signed a Cooperation Agreement

On February 11, 2021, International Union of Non-Governmental Organizations “Eurasian Peoples' Assembly” and the Interregional Public Organization “Association for Assistance to Citizens of Closed Administrative Territorial Entities of the Ministry of Defence of Russian Federation” signed an agreement on cooperation.

The parties, taking into account the growing role of integration processes on the Eurasian continent, realizing the important role of public organizations in the socio-economic development of Eurasian countries and attaching great importance to the development of international communication platforms in order to establish and maintain business interaction between organizations and companies from Eurasian countries, agreed to implement joint projects aimed at expanding and strengthening international business cooperation.

The agreement was signed by Andrei Belyaninov, Secretary General of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly, and Sergei Ermolenko, President of the Association for Assistance to Citizens of Closed Administrative Territorial Units of the Ministry of Defence of Russian Federation. The signing ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Assembly in Moscow.

The Eurasian Peoples' Assembly

The Eurasian Peoples' Assembly is an International Non-governmental Organization aimed at forming a social integration model in the name of establishing peace and harmony through the development of multilateral cooperation and public (people's) diplomacy in the Eurasian space. The Assembly brings together representatives from more than 43 countries. The Assembly have already signed 107 partnership agreements in culture, entrepreneurship, development of integration ties between the peoples of Eurasia and public diplomacy. ZATO Association of the Ministry of Defence of Russia

The Interregional Public Organization “Association for Assistance to Citizens of Closed Administrative-Territorial Entities of the Ministry of Defence of Russian Federation” was established in March 1993 in order to interact with federal government bodies, government bodies of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation and local governments to facilitate the development and implementation of projects and programs aimed at protecting economic, social rights and legitimate interests of citizens living in closed administrative-territorial entities. For more than 27 years, the ZATO Association of the Ministry of Defence of Russia has been actively involved in the development of draft laws affecting the interests of local self-government of the ZATO, has provided methodological and organizational and technical assistance to municipal entities of the ZATO in resolving issues of local importance and establishing of new ZATOs in the interests of the Russian Ministry of Defence. The Association has the tasks, together with the military command and control bodies, in accordance with the Federal Law “On Closed Administrative Territorial Formation”, to develop a systematic approach to solving issues relevant to ZATOs concerning the coordination of the ZATOs’ socio-economic development strategy and an action plan for its implementation, approval the general plan of the ZATOs, territorial planning projects prepared on the basis of master plans and a number of other issues. The coordinated activities of the ZATO local self-government bodies with the military administration bodies contribute to the effective development of the ZATO - improving the quality of life of servicemen and their family members performing tasks related to ensuring the country's defence and state security.
