Delegations of the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly and the Assembly of Peoples of Russia are on a Working Visit to Uzbekistan

September 28 - October 2, 2022, the delegations of the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly and the Assembly of Peoples of Russia, headed by the First Deputy Secretary General - Head of the General Secretariat of the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly, Chairman of the Council of the Assembly of Peoples of Russia Svetlana Smirnova, are on a working visit to the Republic of Uzbekistan from.

The purpose of the visit is to get acquainted with the activities of the national cultural centers of Uzbekistan, meet with compatriots, participate in the international conference "Vectors of cultural and humanitarian cooperation within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization", hold a round table "Interaction of friendship houses, national cultural centers and civil society institutions to strengthen peace and interethnic harmony, the development of public diplomacy under modern conditions”, other events.

The visit is carried out within the International Multicultural Project "Eurasian Friendship Bridges Unite Peoples". The project is supported by the Presidential Grants Foundation, the Assembly of the Peoples of Russia and the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly.

The delegation included Svetlana Smirnova, First Deputy Secretary General - Head of the General Secretariat of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly, Chairman of the Council of the Assembly of Peoples of Russia, member of the Presidential Council for Interethnic Relations; Alexandra Ochirova, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, Co-Chair of the General Council of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly; Vladimir Zorin, Chairman of the Commission of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation on harmonization of interethnic and interreligious relations; Minister for National Policy and Religious Affairs of the Republic of Dagestan Enrik Muslimov; Deputy Secretaries General of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly Stanislav Korolev and Valery Ruzin; Deputy Head of the General Secretariat of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly Marina Plyasunova; heads of friendship houses of Russian regions Irek Sharipov (Republic of Tatarstan), Antonida Koryakina (Republic of Sakha-Yakutia), Grigory Khatanzeisky (Republic of Komi), Igor Burov (Samara Region); Evgenia Mikhaleva, director of the Resource Center for National Relations, and others.

Upon arrival in Tashkent on September 28, members of the Russian delegation were received by the Committee on Interethnic Relations and Friendly Ties with Foreign Countries under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

On September 29, the delegation takes part in the work of the international conference "Vectors of cultural and humanitarian cooperation within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization". Upon the conference, a friendship evening party "In the circle of friends" will be held.

On September 30, the delegation will visit Samarkand and get acquainted with the activities of the House of Friendship of Samarkand.

During the events of the visit, representatives of the delegation, together with their Uzbek colleagues, will discuss the urgent tasks of harmonizing interethnic relations within their countries, at the interstate level, as well as the possibilities of public diplomacy, including issues related to the life of compatriots in both countries. A meaningful exchange of views will serve to increase the level of trust between partners and the quality of the activities of the organizations they represent.

Business meetings in Tashkent and Samarkand will be an important step towards increasing the motivation of the participants of both sides to deepen cultural and humanitarian cooperation, expand business ties in the SCO and Greater Eurasia countries as well as personal contacts. The mutually interested work of partners will also be a good prerequisite for establishing coordination and interaction between the houses of friendship, mechanisms and technologies for cooperation for the joint implementation of promising international projects. These of them, of course, include the project "Eurasian Friendship Bridges Unite Peoples".
