On June 8, the delegation of organizers and experts of the International Round Table "The Role of Public Diplomacy in the Development of Russian-Armenian Relations" led by Svetlana Smirnova, First Deputy Secretary General - Head of the General Secretariat of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly, Chairman of the Council of the Assembly of Peoples of Russia met with the Chief Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Zareh Sinanyan in Yerevan.

The Chief Commissioner presented the activities and current programs of the Office. During the meeting, forms of interaction with non-governmental organizations of the Armenian diaspora in Eurasian countries and the implementation of joint projects in the humanitarian sphere were discussed.

“Arminian diaspora is huge, also, it is unique - more Armenians live outside of Armenia than in Armenia itself. That's how it happened historically. We have two most important areas of work - this is a deeper integration of the diasporas with Armenia. This is a very big and difficult task. And the second is repatriation,” Mr. Sinanyan said.

The First Deputy Secretary General of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly Svetlana Smirnova spoke about the activities of the International Union of Non-Governmental Organizations and outlined the activities of each member of the delegation. Much attention was paid to the work of the National Center for Public Diplomacy of the SCO.

“We have recently created the National Center for Public Diplomacy of the SCO. We are actively working with all structures of the SCO, BRICS, ASEAN, etc. - in fact, we try to build relationships with all integration associations. We have many areas of activity and the main thing for us is to find common ground,” said Svetlana Smirnova.

The meeting also talked about the preservation of historical memory. According to the general opinion, special attention should be paid to this area of cooperation.

“When we protect memory and monuments, then we unite our past, present and future. Together, we could solve these issues,” said Valery Ruzin, Deputy Secretary General of the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly, Chairman of the Council for Cooperation in the Eurasian Media Space.

The meeting resulted in agreement to continue interaction and cooperation, as well as to participate in joint events.
