The Civic Chamber Hosts the Roundtable Meeting: “Greater Eurasia – Africa. Connecting Continents. Priorities and Synergy of Cooperation”

On January 30, 2020, an International Roundtable Meeting "Eurasia-Africa: Connecting Continents. Priorities and Synergy of Cooperation."" is held in Moscow as part of the working program of the General Council of the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly.

The leadership of the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly, experts and businesspersons from Russia, Russian and foreign diplomats, accredited in Russia, representatives of expert and business communities from the EU and Africa take part in its work.

The event aims to give additional impetus to the development of comprehensive ties between the countries of Eurasia and Africa on the eve of the symbolic date - the 60th anniversary of the independence of many African countries. As well as the Roundtable Meeting is to outline the potential and priorities of cooperation and launch the process of preparing the Eurasia-Africa High-Level Forum at the end of 2020.

Three plenary sections are held during the roundtable:

  • geopolitical aspects of cooperation;
  • economic cooperation and information;
  • humanitarian, cultural and educational cooperation.

The coordination and rapprochement of the two continents on the widest range of the international agenda, the role of people's diplomacy and compatriots in this process, as well as the creation of specific institutions to support the implementation of joint programs and projects on the Eurasia-Africa axis (High-Level Coordinating Council, Business Council, etc.) are discussed at the meeting on geopolitical aspects of cooperation.

The meeting on economic and information cooperation is devoted to the overview of the economic situation of Eurasia and Africa, the main trends in their development, the prospects for economic relations, the definition of priorities and strategic cooperation projects. The problems hindering the development of economic ties and ways to remove existing barriers, especially in the financial area, are also discussed at the meeting.

The meeting on humanitarian, cultural and educational cooperation examines the challenges of intensifying cultural, humanitarian and educational cooperation, disseminating information between Eurasia and Africa using the possibilities of digital revolution (Internet, blockchain technology, mobile devices, artificial intelligence).
