Chelyabinsk hosted the International Forum "Russia-Uzbekistan: from Mutually Beneficial Partnership to an Alliance Strategy"

The main part of the international Forum "Russia-Uzbekistan: from mutually beneficial partnership to an alliance strategy" took place in Chelyabinsk on June 9, reported by the North-South Political Science Centre.

Delegations from Russian and Uzbek cities discussed issues of harmonizing interethnic relations and strengthening cultural ties between countries, prospects for youth tourism and student mobility in Russia and Uzbekistan, as well as opportunities for trade and economic cooperation.

The event was organized by the FADN of Russia, the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of the Chelyabinsk Region, the Uzbek Military Historical Society, the North-South Political Science Centre, the Ural-Eurasia Expert Club (Yekaterinburg), and the Leaders of International Cooperation ANO.

The participants in the Plenary Session stressed that in recent years Russia and Uzbekistan have come a long way to strengthen interstate relations. So, in 2020 alone, over 100 government contacts took place, and even broader work took place at the level of business and public structures. No less active work is provided at the regional level. Deputy Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region Yevgeny Golitsyn noted the intensive development of relations between the region and the Republic of Uzbekistan over the past four years, both in the field of trade and at the level of cultural relations.

- The Chelyabinsk Region ranks first among Russian regions in terms of non-resource exports to the Republic of Uzbekistan. The economies of the region and Uzbekistan are complementary, this determines the prospects for long-term cooperation, - said Yevgeny Golitsyn.

Relations between Uzbekistan and the Sverdlovsk region are developing no less actively. Only in the field of trade and economic cooperation there has been a threefold growth over the past five years, described the Deputy Minister of International and Foreign Economic Relations of the Sverdlovsk Region Lyudmila Berg in detail.

The participants in the Plenary Session noted the great positive role of such forums in the development of not only economic, but also friendly relations between our countries.

- The Forum is a good start for cooperation not only at the political but also at the public level. 55% natives of Uzbekistan inhabitants of the region’s are young people. And today we are glad to establish not only economic, but also tourist ties. The more such platforms there are, the more effective the work will be, '' - said Vitaly Pashin, a State Duma Deputy, a member of the deputy group for relations with the Parliament of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The organizer of the convention, executive director of the North-South Political Science Centre, Angelica Trapeznikova, added in her speech that such forums are intended to complement the existing model of interstate cooperation based on trusting relations between the leaders of Russia and Uzbekistan V.V. Putin and Sh.M. Mirzieeva.

Also the Plenary Session was attended by the Counsellor of the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Moscow Alisher Ziyamukhamedov, Counsellor to the Head of the Federal Agency for Nationalities of Russia Anna Polezhaeva, First Deputy Secretary General of the Eurasian Peoples 'Assembly, Chairman of the Council of the Russian Peoples' Assembly, member of the Council under the President of the Russian Federation for Interethnic Relations Svetlana Smirnova, Deputy Chairman of the Commission for Harmonization of Interethnic and Interreligious Relations of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation, Head of the Spiritual Assembly of Muslims of Russia Albir Krganov (via video conference). Vladimir Chetiy, President of the World Alumni Association was the moderator.
