“The 70s of the 20th century have gone down in history as the period of the Cold War – the confrontation between the USSR and the USA. The joint experimental flight of astronauts from both countries marked the beginning of a warming of relations between the two powers.

By a strange coincidence, even providence, the planned handshake of two cosmonauts over Moscow - that famous handshake of Alexei Leonov and Tom Stafford - happened on the Elbe. And it was reminiscent of the handshake on the Elbe - the first meeting of Soviet and American soldiers, which took place at the end of April 1945."

The surprise ending was also a topic of discussion. The audience learnt that cosmonaut Alexei Leonov painted icons.

The event was held with the support of the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives.
