Transport and economic corridors of Central Asia should become “corridors of friendship” stated the First Deputy Secretary General - Head of the General Secretariat of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly, Doctor of Political Sciences Svetlana Smirnova, speaking at the II International Scientific and Practical Conference “From the Volga to the Ganges via Transoxiana” in Tajikistan.
The First Deputy Secretary General of the Assembly focused the participants’ attention on issues of cooperation in the large Eurasian space, noting the important role of non-governmental organizations.
“The Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly maintains contacts with a wide range of partners through the tools of public diplomacy. Issues of humanitarian modernization are acute on the modern agenda. It is important to educate the younger generation in the spirit of responsibility for the future of the planet, forming a planetary consciousness. The topic of morality is more relevant than ever - it is a strategic guideline for leaders at any level,” - said Svetlana Smirnova at the conference in Dushanbe.
The conference of the II International Scientific and Practical Conference “From the Volga to the Ganges via Transoxiana” was held on October 20–21, 2023. Organizers are the National Foundation “Silk Road - the Path to Consolidation”, Tajik National University and the Institute of Asian and European Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan with the support of the Gorchakov Foundation.
About 80 representatives of the scientific community from 11 countries gathered in Dushanbe to discuss the most important issues of fundamental transformation in the Eurasian space, strengthening diverse ties in the triangle “Russia-Central Asia-South Asia”.
The conference participants were greeted by the Vice-President of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, Navruz Muhammad Abdurahmon; Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Tajikistan Semyon Vyacheslavovich Grigoriev; Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to the Republic of Tajikistan Singh Viraj; Chairman of the Foundation “Silk Road - the Path to Consolidation” Mamadazimov Abdugani Mamadrakhimovich.
The plenary session included reports by Professor of the Tajik National University Umarov Khodzhimakhmad “Central Asia in international infrastructure and logistics projects of Eurasia” and Professor of the Russian Peoples’ Friendship University Kurylev Konstantin “Central Asian states in the formation of a new world order.”
During the sectional work, conference participants were able to exchange views on the most pressing issues of the stated topic.
On the sidelines of the conference, a cooperation agreement was signed between the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly and the National Foundation “Silk Road - the Road to Consolidation”.
Tajikistan, which has more than 13,000 glaciers on its territory, promotes such initiatives on water issues at the international level as "Water for Sustainable Development" for 2018-2028 (approved by the UN General Assembly resolution in 2016), "2025 - International Year of Glacier Protection" (also supported at the UN) and others.
