Altai is the most important platform for integration processes and cross-border partnerships in the strategy of the Eurasian and African Peoples’ Assembly. Altai State University hosted a meeting of students and doctoral students with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Russian Federation Dauren Abaev.

Students and teachers of Altai State University, Polzunov Altai State Technical University and Al-Farabi KazNU discussed the development of cooperation in Greater Altai with the head of the diplomatic mission of a neighboring friendly country. The event was also attended by Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Altai Territory Alexander Lukyanov, Consul General of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kerim Kozhamberdiev, Head of the Representative Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Mikhail Korolev and Rector of Altai State University Sergei Bocharov. The meeting was moderated by Roman Raikin, Vice-Rector for International Development of Altai State University.

“For our university, cooperation with Kazakhstan is of great importance; we have launched many joint projects. Greater Altai is a region that unites several states, including Russia and Kazakhstan, which facilitates scientific research in archaeology, ethnography, genome and other areas. We hope that thanks to this meeting and the development of cooperation, we will be able to strengthen our research projects, as well as find new partners,” emphasized Sergei Bocharov.

The head of the Greater Altay Research Center for Altaic and Turkic Studies, Yulia Lysenko, spoke about interaction with universities in Kazakhstan. Thus, among the authors of the first volume of the “Chronicles of Turkic Civilization” there was a famous scientist - Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of Gumilev ENU Bulat Kumekov. Yulia Lysenko solemnly presented the guest of honor, the head of the Kazakh diplomatic mission in Russia, with the first volume of the chronicle as a gift.

Dauren Abaev expressed gratitude to the Altai region and the leadership of Altai State University for organizing his visit, noting that the topics of ecology, Altai studies and the history of Altai will remain relevant for many years to come. He noted that many students from Kazakhstan go to study in Russia because of the common way of life, culture and mentality of the peoples of the two countries. The ambassador called on young people to obey the laws and have great respect for everything that happens in the host country, also advising them to use their time as efficiently as possible, develop skills, learn new things and enjoy their vacation.

“It’s important to know that you have time now that you may not have later. There is work, family, and obligations ahead. Now you have the opportunity to strengthen your social connections, make new acquaintances, expand your knowledge and skills not only in your chosen field. Learn to play the guitar, learn a foreign language, pursue your hobby - believe me, this is the only way your life will be fulfilling. Perhaps even what seems useless now will be useful in the future. And, of course, we need to set aside time for rest and entertainment,” Dauren Abaev advised the students.

During the meeting, a presentation of the virtual museum “Greater Altai - the ancestral home of the Turks” took place. Director of the Museum of Archeology and Ethnography of Altai State University Yaroslav Frolov spoke about the exhibits presented on the website of the Research Center for Altaic Studies and Turkology “Big Altai”.
