В разных странах мира 10 апреля отмечается День братьев и сестер. Главная идея праздника - поддержание добросердечных отношений, сплочение семьи. Общественные организации и активисты проводят в этот день мастер-классы, выставки, концерты и другие праздничные мероприятия, устраивают акции, фестивали.

Сама по себе традиция чествования кровной близости брата и сестры, теплых отношений между ними на протяжении всей жизни существовала у многих народов. В Индии и сегодня есть соответствующий национальный праздник - Ракша-бандхан.

Традиция отмечать День братьев и сестер 10 апреля пришла из США, его английское название - Siblings Day (National Siblings Day. Идея учреждения нового праздника принадлежит Клаудии Эварт, потерявшей своих родных брата и сестру в раннем возрасте. В память о них Клаудия и решила организовать проведение праздника, а в качестве даты выбрала 10 апреля - день рождения ее сестры.

Впервые День братьев и сестер был отмечен в 1998 году и стал быстро набирать популярность сначала в США, а затем получил распространение и в других странах: Британии, Австралии, Японии, Новой Зеландии, Канаде, Швеции и т.д.

В праздновании дня братьев и сестер уже появляются свои традиции. Например, в этот день принято дарить подарки брату или сестре, поздравлять по телефону, собираться в кафе или всей семьей дома. Есть отличия от индийского торжества - в Индии ритуал проводится между двумя близкими людьми. В США и в других странах мира, присоединившихся к празднованию, количество братьев и сестер не имеет значение. Они все являются полноправными участниками, вручающими и принимающими подарки и поздравления.

The tradition to celebrate Brothers and Sisters Day on April 10 came from the USA. Its English name is Siblings Day (National Siblings Day). The idea of establishing a new holiday belongs to Claudia Evart, who lost her brother and sister at an early age. In memory of them Claudia and decided to organize a holiday, and as April 10 was chosen as a date. It is her sister’s birthday.

Brothers And Sisters Day was first celebrated in 1998 and began to gain popularity in the United States and then spread to other countries: Britain, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Canada, Sweden, etc.

The celebration of the Day of Brothers and Sisters already has its own traditions. For example, on this day it is customary to give gifts to a brother or sister, to congratulate on the phone, to gather in a cafe or at home with the whole family. There are differences from the Indian celebration.  In India, the ritual is performed between two close people. In the United States and other countries around the world that have joined the celebration, the number of siblings does not matter. They are all full participants, presenting and accepting gifts and greetings.
