Secretary General of the International Union of Non-Governmental Organizations “Eurasian Peoples 'Assembly” Andrei Belyaninov was elected First Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Assembly of Peoples of Russia. Svetlana Smirnova, Chairperson of the Assembly of the Peoples of Russia, announced the news following the results of the enlarged meeting of the Council of the Assembly of the Peoples of Russia on April 5.

The All-Russian Public Organization “Assembly of the Peoples of Russia” was established on July 8, 1998 in accordance with the Concept of the State National Policy of the Russian Federation, approved by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 909 of June 15, 1996 as one of the most important mechanisms for the implementation of the country's national policy. It unites representatives of more than 190 peoples of the Russian Federation. Today it is a leading public organization with a developed network of representative offices in the regions of Russia. The Assembly of the Peoples of Russia plays a significant role in uniting Russian society and strengthening interethnic and intercultural dialogue. The organization is called upon to contribute to the preservation of the unity of the people, its richest spiritual heritage, distinctive traditions and cultures. The Assembly's motto is “Friendship of Peoples - the Unity of Russia”.
