The Chinese Film Academy Award, known as the Documentary Oscar, was presented to a Russian director for the first time. The film “I am Che Guevara” by the debutant Vyacheslav Krasko won the Best Foreign Language Film nomination.
A story “told in the first person” received an Academy statuette and two finalist Diplomas. In 2021, the Russian film was recognized as the best among films from the USA, South Korea and Belarus.
In Beijing, the awards ceremony is held at the State level, Russian prizes were received on stage by Georgy Egorov, Press Attache of the Russian Embassy in China.
The Chinese Academy of Documentary Film Award was established in 2011 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Chinese documentary filmmaking. Its laureates have received international recognition and a high IMDb rating.
The films were submitted for the award from Russia by the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly and the Eurasian Academy of Television and Radio.
“I am Che Guevara. A story told in the first person” is a film about the youth of the legendary commandant, an attempt to find the prerequisites for the birth of a fiery revolutionary from an intelligent medical student. Vyacheslav Krasko, a graduate of the Higher Courses for Scriptwriters and Directors named after G. Danelia, tried to document the period of Che Guevara's formation before meeting Fidel Castro. To do this, the director sought out friends and relatives of his hero. He even met Che Guevara's first love, Chichina, but she did not allow the director to record her conversation on camera.
Another five Russian documentaries were shortlisted by the Chinese Film Academy. These are “Heavenly Crimea” by Sergey Debizhev, “There, in the distance” by Victoria Fomina, “As long as we are alive, we will live” by Grigory Ilugdin, “Ice Clouds” by Boris Dvorkin and “Russian Gardariki” by Anna Kolodezneva. They were awarded diplomas of the finalists.
The Eurasian Peoples' Assembly organized an award ceremony for Russian laureates in Moscow. The event was held with the support of the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives. On the stage of the House of Cinema, Vyacheslav Krasko received an award from the hands of the First Secretary of the Chinese Embassy in the Russian Federation, Ms. Hao Zhoqi. The diploma of the finalist was presented to him by the Counsellor-Envoy of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Russian Federation, Ms. Liu Jinghua. Ms. Liu Jinghua noted the importance of receiving this award by a Russian author for both Russia and China, and called this event a step in today's development of comprehensive partnership relations between Russia and China in a new era.
Deputy Chairman of the Society of Russia-Chinese Friendship Sergey Sanakoev recalled the words of support of the President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping - Russia, and thanked the directors for their cultural contribution to the Russian-Chinese friendship.
The award ceremony in Moscow was hosted by the poet, TV and radio presenter Yegor Serov.
At a press conference, Vyacheslav Krasko received an offer from a producer from China to implement a joint Russian-Chinese project about the meeting of Che Guevara with Mao Zedong.
In 2021, the Chinese Film Academy launched the "Outstanding Contribution to the Development of International Communications" award for the first time. It was awarded to 3 cinema figures: British documentary filmmaker Malcolm Clark (four times nominated for an Academy Award and won it twice), producer Vikram Channa from India (known in Russia for his TEDx performance in Japan) and Valery Ruzin - producer, Deputy Secretary General of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly, President of the Eurasian Academy of Television and Radio, member of the Union of Cinematographers of the Russian Federation, who made a significant contribution to the promotion of Russian and Chinese documentary films on the international stage.
Valery Ruzin has implemented four joint Russia-Chinese projects: three films and one series, organized eight Russia-Chinese cooperation forums on culture and tourism, which were held in Shanghai, Beijing, Sevastopol, Moscow and Xi'an.
Since 2014, Valery Ruzin has been the Head of the Vladimir Menshov “WON TOGETHER” International Film Festival in Crimea, and gathers the best of Russian documentaries and reputable foreign directors from more than 40 countries of the world.
In the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly, Valery Davydovich is working on the development of international communications in the preservation of historical memory.
