Moscow City Government House hosted a meeting dedicated to the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture

Today, on May 24, a meeting of the Moscow public took place in the Moscow Government House. The meeting was dedicated to the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture, which is timed to the day of memory of the holy brothers Cyril and Methodius, the founders of the Slavic alphabet.

This holiday is celebrated in Russia, Bulgaria, Belarus, North Macedonia, Ukraine, Serbia and the Czech Republic.

The heads of national and cultural autonomies, representatives of international public organizations, research centres and institutes attended the discussion. The round table meeting was moderated by Igor Krugovykh, a member of the General Council of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly.

The topics for discussion included the history of the formation of the holiday, the spiritual and moral significance of the Days of Slavic Writing and Culture, the development of the Slavic world, and the issues of the unity of peoples.

Andrei Belyaninov, Secretary General of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly addressed the audience with a welcoming speech:

“We are convinced that each language is a unique way of peoples’ thinking and self-expression, it ensures national identity, acts as one of the mechanisms for the formation of traditions. Therefore, the preservation of languages, and hence the peoples’ cultures, is one of the important areas of our activity."
