Eurasian Peoples' Assembly launches the Expert Round Table "Topical Issues of Preserving Linguistic Diversity" on the UNESCO International Mother Language Day

On February 19, 2021, the International Union of Non-Governmental Organizations "The Eurasian Peoples' Assembly" will hold an Expert Round Table "Topical Issues of Preserving Linguistic Diversity" under the auspices of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO. The event is timed to coincide with the International Mother Language Day.

The live broadcast of the round table will start on February 19 at 11 a.m. (Moscow time) on the official Facebook account of the Eurasian Peoples' Assembly - https://www.facebook.com/EurasiaAssembly

The aim of the round table is to find ways to expand the linguistic and intercultural communication of peoples, to promote multilingualism in the interests of Eurasian integration.

The discussion will be moderated by Svetlana Smirnova, First Deputy Secretary General - Head of the General Secretariat of the Eurasian Peoples 'Assembly, Chairperson of the Council of the Assembly of the Peoples' of Russia, member of the Presidential Council for Interethnic Relations, member of the Board of the Foundation for the Preservation and Study of the Native Languages of the Peoples of the Russian Federation.

Andrey Belyaninov, Secretary General of the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly, and Grigory Ordzhonikidze, Executive Secretary of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO will open the round table.

  • The role of the native language as a carrier of culture, mentality, traditions and history of each nation
  • Preservation and study of native languages of the peoples of Eurasia
  • Increasing interest in languages, respect for peoples and their cultures, stimulating the study of native languages
  • Drawing attention to the problem of translating fiction, publishing literary works in the languages of the peoples of Russia and Eurasia
  • The role of education in the preservation and development of the languages of the peoples of Eurasia
  • Creation of an accessible communicative language environment in the context of Eurasian integration
  • Language barriers in family, social, international communication and ways to overcome them
  • Ways to increase social and creative activity through the development of native languages
  • The role of public associations in the preservation and development of the languages of the peoples of Eurasia
