DECR chairman takes part in online-conference of partners of Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly

On March 11, 2021, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for external church relations (DECR), took part in an online-conference of partners in agreements of the Eurasian People’s Assembly.

Among the participants were also Mr. S. Glaziev, member of the Eurasian Economic Commission board for integration and macroeconomics; Mr. Didier Chaudesaygues, president of the Russian- French Economic Chamber; Mr. Zeini Rauf Khurshud oglu, president of the National Forum of the NGOs in Azerbaijan; Mr. O. Ostrovidov, head of the ITAR-TASS international relations department; Mr. Hussein Shaban Mohamed El-Shafi, chairman of the Egyptian-Russian Foundation for the Support of Science and Culture, and others.

In his greeting address, Metropolitan Hilarion underscored a great demand for efforts aimed to develop relationships among various nations, societies and cultures. The hierarch pointed to the role of diplomacy as the most effective instrument for keeping peace and gave an account of efforts made by the Russian Orthodox Church for settling inter-ethnic conflicts and asserting civic peace in the cause of defending traditional values.

The participants considered various aspects of joint work for developing integrational processes through an effective use of people’s diplomacy and mechanisms of cooperation in business, academic, educational and humanitarian work.
