Secretary General of the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly Andrey Belyaninov addresses the world community with regard to the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh on behalf of the International Union of non-governmental organizations “Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly”.

The appeal says:

On September 27, 2020, Armenia and Azerbaijan announced attacks on the contact line in Nagorno-Karabakh. States have accused each other of escalating the conflict. Martial law has been declared in Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as in the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, and mobilization is underway. This is a terrible tragedy for many peoples of the South Caucasus, for hundreds of thousands of civilians.

The International Union of Non-governmental Organizations “Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly” expresses concern about the aggravation of this long-running dispute between the two States. Citizens of both Azerbaijan and Armenia are members of the Assembly. We know first-hand about the desire of these two countries for peace, partnership and cooperation. Among our friends and partners are representatives of more than 40 countries of Eurasia, and for everyone the most precious and desirable thing is peace - a life without wars, without violence, without fear, tears and suffering.

The main thing now is to make all necessary efforts to prevent further development of the conflict in the Caucasus. We need to stop military actions and sit down at the table of civilized negotiations. All peoples and States are absolutely equal before moral laws, before God, and the more clearly this spiritual equality of peoples is accepted and realized by all, the nearer will be our common and main goal - peace in the whole world.

On September 21, the International Day of Peace united the people of the planet. At the suggestion of the UN General Assembly, it is widely celebrated as a day of ceasefire and non-violence. On this day, the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly held an International online event under the auspices of the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory in World War II. Preserving the memory of the terrible trials and hard years that caused irreparable damage to all mankind, we remind you that the Victory of 1945 was possible thanks to the joint opposition to fascism, a common national feat in which there were no national claims and divisions. There was a common desire of all peoples for universal peace.

On the issues of Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as on other conflict situations that arise today, the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly stands for a broad international dialogue aimed at strengthening the system of international security and trust between States, for preventing and eliminating absolutely all threats. Actions of States to strengthen their own security should not lead to the formation of dividing lines and confrontation. World history has proved many times that nations are strong, first of all, through mutual assistance, trust, unity and friendship.

We call on the international community to join efforts in building a just and secure world order based on respect for the universally recognized principles and norms of international law on the territory of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.

The Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly will do everything possible to promote the formation of a social integration model for the sake of establishing peace and harmony through the development of multilateral cooperation and public (people's) diplomacy on the territory of the most populous continent of the Earth - on the territory of Eurasia.
